International Festival "Axe Celebration"Attention!
The Fourth International Festival "Axe Celebration" 2011 will take place in Zorkaltsevo village on August 19-21, 2011. We invite carpenters' teams and and individual masters to participate in our Festival! International Festival "Axe Celebration" is aimed at revival of stable traditions of Siberian wooden architecture. It is said that formerly on the Tomsk territory there were lived people who were keen on carpentry and joinery. This craft is not forgotten, so let all carpenters from the whole Russia and other countries come here to give master classes and compete among themselves.   The objective of the "Axe Celebration" is to attract public attention to the question of revival traditional carpentry craft that was on the territory of Tomsk and Tomsk region from the earliest times; to get guests involved in the process of preservation and restoration of Tomsk historical aspect and in the process of revival and preservation of Tomsk region countries.   Within the framework of festival all the able carpenters of our region, as well as guests from Norway, Finland, Canada, Bulgaria, USA, and Czech Republic are invited to the Axe Celebration and take part in the carpenter team contest. A doll house will be the result of their work. Festival guests will see how each team will make a log cabin, cover the roof with boards and decorate the house. Jury will estimate carpentry's work. The carpentry team with most qualified work will get the first place at the end of the contest. Single carpenters will compete in the contest of individual skills making carved garden bench. The best carpenter will awarded with crystal axe.   During the next contest audience will choose the best carved birdhouse whose author will get audience sympathy prize. The man who chops wood more quickly and more elegantly will be chosen by secret voting among female part of the audience. Ordinary people will have an opportunity to take part in entertainment competitions - peg sharpening and axe throwing. Cultural program is created for the pleasure of festival guests which contains concerts of singer poets and folk bands from Tomsk and nearest settlements and villages, exhibition and sale of applied-arts masters production, Itinerants vernisage, Tomsk Poetry Organization recitations, national food from partner restaurant, "the cock of the village" competition, village fashion show, children contests, pond swimming.   During the excursion in Zorkaltsevo and Nelubino villages guests will see the objects of wooden architecture: the Temple in the honor of the Icon of the Mother Hodigitria; old wooden houses; so-called "black" Russian baths which are heated with a chimneyless stove; the place where according to the legend the treasure of White Guard admiral Kolchak supposed to be hidden; the place where the forefather of A. Pushkin Hannibal stayed for the night when was going to exile. Zorkaltsevo habitants will prepare delicious food - salted fat, smoked fish, berries and different dainties for their guests. We invite everybody to our "Axe Celebration"!
